New Orleans Cruises – Places You Can Visit

New Orleans has quite the reputation as a party town and with Bourbon Street and the yearly Mardi Gras parades that reputation is well deserved. Don’t let that keep you from turning to New Orleans for your next family vacation though. With places like the New Orleans Zoo, the Aquarium of the Americas and a cruise port touting some of the best cruise lines in the world including the family friendly Carnival cruise lines, it’s worth taking a second look at for your next trip.

The New Orleans Zoo

The Zoo is located in the historical uptown area of New Orleans away from the hustle and bustle of the French Quarter and is considered one of the country’s best zoos. Highlights include white tigers, endangered whooping cranes, and an amazing butterfly exhibit. For a few dollars more those visiting in the summer time can check out the Cool Zoo splash park offering kids a great way to cool off during the hot Louisiana days. Small slides, water soakers and even an area for toddlers is included in this animal themed zone.

The Aquarium of the Americas
Located in the heart of New Orleans next to the Riverwalk Mall and Harrah’s casino sits the Aquarium of the Americas. The Aquarium features a 400,000 gallon Gulf of Mexico exhibit with sharks, rays, tarpon and more. Kids can even take turns feeding sting rays or even parakeets in the exotic bird exhibit. If you visit the aquarium be sure not to miss the rare white alligators.

Port of New Orleans

The Port of New Orleans has come along way as a cruise port over the past ten years. In keeping with the New Orleans reputation, the port use to only service a couple of older ships making party runs to Cozumel. Times have changed and now the port features some of the top ships from Carnival, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian. Cruises from New Orleans also now stop at places throughout the western Caribbean including Grand Cayman, Belize and even Roatan. For a family cruise, Carnival offers one of the best children’s program of any line not named Disney. This makes Carnival a great option for extending your family vacation to New Orleans with a cruise to the Caribbean.

Whether you choose to add a cruise to your trip or just visit some of the famous landmarks in New Orleans, don’t let the party reputation keep you from enjoying a great family vacation in New Orleans.
